Please note for ALL out of uniform days
If your child is not participating in the outlined options, your child needs to come to class in his/her school uniform. Additionally, please keep in mind that leggings or form-fitting pants of any material type are not considered pants. In other words, if your child chooses to wear leggings, they must wear appropriately-length shorts or skirts over them.
**Please review your Parent & Student handbook for out of uniform day rules.
ICSAtlanta Celebrates Black History
Our month-long celebration will include many in-class activities, including special activities such as our 5th grade Black Heroes Video Contest and our 7th grade HBCU student presentations. We also have two out of uniform days during this month.
Friday, February 5th: Traditional African Attire
This day is meant as a celebration of all the various African nations and cultures represented by our ICSAtlanta staff, parents, and students. Students are invited to wear and share with their friends and teachers the traditional attire of their families' recent or ancestral African home countries. For those of you who are new to ICSAtlanta, please see the attached photo for an example of past celebrations.
Friday, February 26th: HBCU spirit wear
We invite students and staff to wear the spirit wear from their favorite Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Chinese New Year
The ICSAtlanta Mandarin track would like to invite all ICSAtlanta families to join us for 5 online sessions celebrating the Chinese New Year! These sessions will take place Monday through Friday (February 22nd-26th) and will begin at 6 PM. Each session will include interactive activities and prizes for select participants! You will find the Zoom session links on our school's calendar (found on the homepage of our website).
Monday: Fashion Show
Wednesday: Martial Arts
Friday: Magic Show
We will celebrate Carnival on Friday, February 12th in our language classrooms (both online and in-person).
As Carnival in Spanish-speaking countries is typically very colorful, students in the Spanish track may dress in jeans with colorful t-shirts. Students will create masks in their classes.
Students in the French track are encouraged to dress up as knights, queens, and kings.
Students in the German track may dress as children do for Carnival in the German-speaking countries. Costumes are usually simple and may involve some face paint. Masks are not typically needed (e.g. instead of wearing a lion mask, the face would be painted as a lion face). Please remember that costumes should be funny/happy rather than scary.
Here are some suggestions:
Jobs (e.g. baker, police officer, firefighter, etc.)
Animals (e.g. cat, lion, panda, etc.)
Magical (e.g. witch, wizard, fairy, etc.)
Story or Book Characters (e.g. princess, prince, Pippi Longstocking, etc.)
Choose one of the options above.
- Students are not allowed to bring toy weapons (e.g. swords, knives, guns, etc).
- Whole-face masks are also not allowed.
100th Day of School
Tuesday, February 9th is our 100th Day of School!
Students and staff are invited to come to school dressed in ways that express celebration and/or the number 100! Students can wear bright, festive colored clothing and/or clothing expressing 100 (polka-dots, tally marks, numbers, etc.)!
Please note: We will NO longer be dressing as centenarians for the 100th day of school!

ICSAtlanta's Valentine's Celebration will take place Thursday, February 11th!
Even though Valentine's Day falls during our winter break, we would like to give our students the opportunity to exchange cards and/or gifts (non-food). Participation is completely optional; however, if your student does choose to participate, please make sure that he/she brings in enough cards for each student in the class and that these items do not contain food/candy. Erasers, pencils, trinkets, and even handwritten notes are all wonderful examples of what students may bring for the Valentine exchange. Please send in a container (cereal box, shoe box, paper sack, etc.) for your child's received Valentine's cards (unless your child's teacher reaches out to indicate otherwise). Your child's teacher (K-5) will send out a list with the first name of each student in the class prior to February 12th.
